The course analyzes the history of Spain from the crisis of the Restoration system in 1923 to the end of Franco's dictatorship in 1975. Classes are organized in three sections. In the first section, a general overview is given about the history of Spain from the Medieval times to the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. The second section focuses on the main issues of the social history of Spain: the role of the Army and the Church, the national movements, the situation of women and the labour movement. Finally, the third section deals with the political, social and economic evolution of Spain from 1923 to 1975, with particular attention to the Civil War and the Francoist period.

LT375 Barcelona and the Latin American Literary Boom click for information click to download pdf
This course provides an introduction to one of the fundamental chapters of twentieth century literature: the generation known as the Latin American Boom. Through the work of its most notable writers - Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa and Jose Donoso, among others - the course will study the literary works that made the reputation of Latin American literature, as well as the key role played by Barcelona in its emergence and diffusion.
