Language and Area Studies

Course options available to IES Barcelona Summer Language & Area Studies Program students are determined by language proficiency. Below are the course options for each language level of the IES program. Students must take between 6 and 7 credit hours while on the program.

The Language & Area Studies Program will run from May 19th to July 5th 2008.

Beginner Track students have two options:

• Take a seven credit intensive language course, SP150; or
• Take a four credit high beginners course, SP102 and one IES area studies course in English.

Intermediate I Track students have two options:

• Take a seven credit intensive language course, SP250; or
• Take a four credit Intermediate I course, SP201, and one IES area studies course in English

Intermediate II Track students have one option:

• Take a four credit Intermediate II course, SP202, and one IES area studies course in English

Advanced I Track students have the following options:

• Take a four credit Advanced I Spanish language class, SP301, and one IES area studies course in Spanish or English; or
• Take a seven credit intensive language course, SP350.

Advanced II Track students have the following option:

• Take a four credit Advanced II Spanish language class, SP302, and one IES area studies course in Spanish or English.

Heritage level students have the following options:

• Take a 4-credit advanced Spanish language class, SP400; or
• Enroll in one IES area studies course in Spanish and one in English; or
• Enroll in two IES area studies courses in Spanish.
