Spanish Honors Program
Programa de Estudios Hispanoamericanos
Direct enrolment at local universities, cultural immersion and student autonomy in academic life characterize this option. This track is specially suited for bilingual students, Spanish heritage students, and Spanish majors. Students are required to take all courses in Spanish and present an Honors Thesis. Students participating in the Spanish Honors Program have a specific floor in the IES center for their exclusive use.
The course options offered are:
- Spanish language (Honors level)
- IES Area studies (in Spanish)
- Regular courses (in Spanish) at UPF*, ESCI and URL
- Internships & Service Learning
* If you choose to take courses at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), you are required to take at least two courses.
This means that:
- Students can take a Spanish language class at IES at the Honors level. Those who want to become language teachers have the option of taking a Teaching Methodology Seminar.
- They can also take IES area studies courses in Spanish, with a strong focus on Spain-Latin America linkages (Estudios Iberoamericanos)
- Honors students can take regular courses taught in Spanish at local universities such as Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Escuela Superior de Comercio Internacional (ESCI), or URL (Sant Ignasi).
- Internships & Service learning placements are also an option for honors students in order to maximize students' cultural immersion.
- IES Barcelona guarantees that honors students will live with local students in apartments, residence halls or families.
