Adil Qureshi

Adil Qureshi did his undergraduate work in political science at the University of Alberta, then completed an MA in phenomenological psychology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, an Ed.M. in psychological counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California.

He currently is the coordinator of psychotherapy and cultural mediation in the Transcultural Psychiatry Program of the Psychiatry Service of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, where he has worked since 2002. Dr. Qureshi's current work responsibilities include psychological treatment of migrant patients, transcultural psychiatric research, and multicultural health care training. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Immigration and Health Plan Directorate of the Department of Health of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia. He also sits on the Bioethics and Culture Committee of the Department of Health, and he is co-director of cultural competence training for the Institute of Health Studies.

Among his more recent publications are "Dialogical relationship and cultural imagination: A hermeneutic approach to intercultural psychotherapy" in the American Journal of Psychotherapy, and "Cultural competence in the mental health treatment of immigrant and ethnic minority clients" in Diversity in Health and Social Care.
