Course Options
IES Barcelona offers a wide range of academic courses, both at the IES Center and at local institutions, which can be summarized into the following five course options:
- Area Studies courses offered at the IES Center, mostly in English but some in Spanish as well, in a wide range of disciplines, from Business and Economics to Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Estudios Hispanicos courses are available in outside universities, mainly in Spanish but some in English. These courses are specifically designed for international students, in a wide range of disciplines.
- Regular courses at outside universities are also offered in both Spanish and English. Students who take regular courses will be in class with local Spanish students. These are degree courses for local students.
- Spanish language courses are offered at the IES Center and range from the 100 to the 400 level. There are also intensive language courses. These courses are required for most students. Please consult the IES language policy to check if you need to take a language course.
- Internships and Service Learning combine project-based placements in a business, social organization or school with an academic seminar. Internships are available to Intermediate II and Advanced tracks, although some internships placements are in English.
