Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting the ideas or writing of another as one's own. This includes copying or paraphrasing passages from books, periodicals, the web, or other documents without appropriate citations. It may also include copying or paraphrasing the direct or mechanically reproduced statements of others and representing them as one's own.

Self-plagiarism is the submission of one's own course assigments or research papers in whole or in part for one course that are being or have been submitted to other courses at any time. All work submitted for each course must be original work specific to and for that course.

In order to avoid these practices, the IES Barcelona Faculty is instructed to use Turn-it-in plagiarism detection software for every class. Its main functions are designed to:

  • Detect material cut and pasted from the Internet
  • Detect identical or similar submissions
  • Build up database of assignments purchased from paper-mills and essay-banks.

Term papers and other works must be sent to your professor by e-mail (Word format) and handed in directly in paper form. A paper will not be considered as having been handed in until it is received by the professor in BOTH forms.
