Besalu

The original castle of Besalú was constructed in the 10th century a.d. The city went on to become one of the most important medieval cities in Catalonia. The main buildings in the village represent some of the finest medieval architecture in the region. Prior to its medieval glory days, Iberic, Celtic and Roman civilizations populated Besalú.

Interesting sights in Besalú include the 10th century monastery, the beautiful, 105 metre, 11th century romanesque bridge -- symbol of the village of Besalú.

Your day trip will include a guided tour of the city with your course professors and you will also have some free time to explore. This is a great opportunity to see an area no otherwise easy to reach with public transport.
