The Lacemakers Association of Catalonia

Following the reading of the the collection of short stories by the autor Emilia Pardo Torn Lace and Other Stories the students of this course extend their in-class consideration of womens symbolic capital in culture with a visit to a workshop of the Catalan Association of Lacemakers.

Students first receive a presentation from one of the lacemakers, concerning the development of this tradition in Catalonia. They then visit the workshop.

This female group of artisans participate in various international competitions and exhibitions, as well as producing contemporary lace pieces, based on themes related to the culture of Barcelona and Catalonia.
