The course offers an introduction to Spanish cinema from the beginning of democracy
in Spain, during the seventies, until today, with a particular attention to those movie-makers that stand out for their artistic value as well as for their
capacity to reflect the most important characteristics of Spanish contemporary reality and culture. The different course sessions will explain the plural
imaginary of the most recent Spanish cinema, through the work of filmmakers such as Pedro Almodovar, Victor Erice, Julio Medem, Alejandro Amenabar,
or Jose Luis Guerin. Students will have the chance to study the particular poetic art of these authors, the evolution of movie genres,and the importance of
cinema in the Spanish society framework, as well as to attain throughout the course knowledge of cinematographic theory, and resources to analyze movies
and establish elations with other type of artistic expressions, such as literature and painting. Finally, the course will offer the necessary theoretical
tools to contextual rise all other important issues within social, political and economical evolution in Spain, of the last decades.

En este curso, de doce semanas de duración, se trata de ofrecer una breve
panorámica de los máximos representantes de filosofía en el ámbito hispánico del siglo pasado, y de marcar las
líneas o tendencias preferentes del pensamiento filosófico español actual, y ello a partir del análisis de los acercamientos de
diversos pensadores hispánicos a la obra El Quijote. El hilo argumental de esta panorámica será el intento de formular una razón-vital.
Esta razón vital se formula y concreta en la forma como los autores del siglo XX se acercan a la gran obra cervantina, El Quijote, en el que ven
sintetizada toda la metafísica española, toda la esencia de un problema universal que en suelo hispano cobra su singular forma y figura: el
idealismo de Quijote frente al realismo de Sancho, la fe que desconfía de los sentidos y el sensualismo que recela de todo ideal del más allá,
la forja del amor cortés y soberana ironía en la figura de Dulcinea, aldeana e inspiradora de todas las gestas de nuestro caballero y un largo
etcétera.

Acercar a los estudiantes norteamericanos al conocimiento de la poesía
hispánica, desde los orígenes medievales hasta el presente, a través de una selección de textos que serán objeto
de lectura y comentario detallados. Con el fin de contextualizar esa lectura se abordarán los principales problemas literarios que plantean,
así como su relación con la cultura de su época. Metodologéa: La lectura de los textos irá precedida de un sintético
panorama sobre movimientos y autores literarios, aunque el peso mayor del curso recaerá sobre la lectura y comentario de las obras escogidas teniendo
en cuenta diferentes perspectivas críticas. A los alumnos se les entregará al principio de cada tema unas guías de lectura que les sirvan
a modo de pauta y donde se señalarán los aspectos principales que serán objeto de debate en clase y que habrán de traer previamente
preparadas.
