Pep Ingles

Hi, my name is Pep (the same name as my father and many Spaniards and Catalans). I was born in Lleida, a small city or a large town, in the middle of nowhere. I grew up speaking Catalan (my father's mother tongue), Spanish (my mother's mother tongue), and Patues (a rare language spoken in the Pyrenees Mountains, where I spent my summers). All of these influences inspired me to study and teach languages and culture.

I went to elementary and high school in Lleida, but I had always dreamed about living and studying in Barcelona. So at the age of 18 I arrived in the big city to start university at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. After finishing my degree I decided to complete a Masters at Barcelona University to specialize in teaching Spanish as a second language. Then I had a challenging and fantastic experience when I moved to Lyon (France) to work at the university to complete my thesis on self-directed learning. There, I had the chance to learn through teaching and to make fantastic friends in a lovely city.

Now, back in my adoptive Barcelona, I keep doing at IES what I really like: teaching and learning about language and culture.

As I did 14 years ago, you are now arriving in Barcelona with great enthusiasm and big plans. I hope that, like me, you are going to have a marvellous time here... Barcelona won't disappoint you!
