Laia Colomer

I was born, grew up, lived and studied in Barcelona until I finished, in 1995, my PhD. thesis on prehistoric pottery production during the Iberian Bronze Age. After that I move out and lived in different European countries for work and studies. In The Netherlands, I had a post-doc research fellowship for three years; in Italy, I worked for a private heritage management company; and in London, I enrolled the MA in Public Archaeology, that is, on the management and interpretation of archaeological heritage and museums. In 2001, I moved back home and nowadays I am working full-time as heritage manager specialist at the City History Museum of Barcelona.

Teaching to foreigners visitors in Barcelona is something that amuses me. Somehow it gives a way back to my past, when I was also a foreigner, when I was discovering other cultures, and I learned to have a wide perspective connecting both my academic knowledge on the Mediterranean past and my living in today's European cities. I wish to communicate all these feelings in my teaching.

In my free time I read, go to the cinema and visit exhibitions (and they are tools that I like to introduce in my teaching). Scuba diving and mountain trekking are also my passions but, above all, I love to travel... as far and exotic as possible! It is rewarding to meet other people and to enjoy different landscapes!
