Carlos Martin

I was born in Granada in 1979 and spent part of my childhood in Melilla, a Spanish territory in Northern Africa. Travels to Morocco, Italy and Greece during early years created a passion for the study of Art, Archaeology and made my curiosity for foreign cultures grow. I studied Art History at the University of Granada and obtained my MA in History of Cinema. I have spent long periods in Italy, where I have worked in different projects such as the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Collection.

My personal and professional interests have been the sociological approach to Film and, more recently, the study of non-western artistic traditions. I am also a passionate of museums, where I have had the chance to curate several Contemporary Art exhibitions. Curating Art exhibitions and teaching are jobs that, for me, are connected: both have to do with giving people tools to think critically about the current world and with the creation of dialogue spaces. In the past year I travelled to India as an NGO volunteer, an experience that shaped my way of understanding my everyday work. Further research and a growing interest in witnessing the development of arts in their social contexts has taken me to Cuba, Turkey, Egypt, France, US, UK, Morocco and, recently, Iran.
