Andres SantanaI was born in Barcelona and, after a long stage in Madrid, teaching at IES offered me the possibility to come back to this amazing "city of wonders", as one famous writer dubbed it. I am sure you will soon come to like Barcelona as much as I do, with its huge gothic quarter, its remarkable modernist architecture, its junction of cultures and its marvelous Mediterranean food. In my spare time, I love to go out with my friends with thousands of bars and a rich cultural life, Barcelona is a wonderful city for that and I usually see several (good) films a week and try to read a bit every day. And, given some days off, I try to profit the opportunity and travel whenever I can. My academic background is Economics and Business Sciences, at the University of Pompeu Fabra, here in Barcelona. I then got a scholarship and turned to sociology and political science, which I studied at the Juan March Institute in Madrid, and have just finished my PhD dissertation on electoral behavior and, most specifically, on the factors which explain why do people vote or abstain. Currently, I am working at several papers and research projects regarding electoral behavior, gambling behavior, and public opinion. I am firmly convinced that it is most important to analyze arguments and readings critically. I am likewise persuaded that a strong methodological background is essential for (the social) sciences: it is because of this that, with the aid of additional grants, I also studied methodology and data analysis in England, at Essex University; now I am preparing a methodological paper dealing with factor analytic techniques.
